    The Peninsula School District is proud to offer Naviance as a tool to inspire and empower every student through high school and support their unique journey to excellence!

    The purpose of Naviance is to enable self-discovery, academic organization, college preparation, and career exploration. These services come in the form of; 

    • College matching tools; 
    • Personality tests; 
    • Surveys;
    • Career assessments; and
    • Course planning. 

    The program encourages students to discover their interests and strengths and identify what their long-term goals are. Gradually, they are able to then establish a course of study–making their High School and Beyond Plan actionable. Additionally, Naviance also offers its services to students pursuing associate, bachelor’s, and master’s degrees by providing them with assistance and resources in order to succeed in completing their degrees.

    Students can log into Naviance through their Portal.

    Why join the military?

    Many choose to enlist because of their patriotism and a sense of duty. Joining the military also provides job training and economic stability. There is pay and benefits, travel opportunities, and educational opportunities. You must be a U.S. Citizen or a resident alien to enlist. 

    During your freshman and sophomore year: 

    1. Research different military branches and career opportunities. 
    2. Attend a college and career fair at your high school. Check the calendar for upcoming events. 
    3. Make sure you are on the path toward graduation. 
    4. Start planning CTE courses that align with your chosen military career path. Meet with your counselor to learn more. 
    5. Consider joining the NJROTC program. 

    During your junior and senior years: 

    1. Continue your research. 
    2. Attend the college and career fair at your high school. Check the calendar for upcoming events. 
    3. Meet with a local military recruiter. 
    4. Take the ASVAB both years. Sign up Here.
    5. Speak with your counselor about joining a college ROTC program.

    In your senior year:

    1. Enlist with your local recruiter after you turn 17. 
    2. Pass a Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) medical exam. 

  • Want to find an apprenticeship?

    An apprenticeship is a combination of on-the-job training and classroom instruction, all under the supervision of a journey-level professional. Apprentices are paid while they learn and are a stepping stone into a trade career. Apprentices who graduate from a state-registered program receive professional credentials that are recognized nationwide.

Learn about college in high school programs

Dual credit programs allow students to earn high school and college credit simultaneously. Students who earn college credits are more likely to graduate high school, enroll in college, and complete their degrees.

Career and Technical Education (CTE) Dual Credit offers high school students the opportunity to earn college credit for successful completion of CTE courses taught at their schools.

Consider Running start

The Running Start programs allow 11th and 12th-grade students to take college courses at one of Washington's 34 community and technical colleges. Students can earn college credits and high school credits simultaneously.

The AP Program offers college-level courses and exams students can take in high school. AP courses help students earn college credits, save time and money, stand out on college applications, and more.

Advanced Placement
College Credits Credits are earned based on the student's body of work/grade from over the length of the course (year or semester)
Nearly universally accepted as a college credit. Credit will be transcripted from either the University of Washington or College of Western Washington.

Credits are earned based on the student's body of work/grade from over the length of the course.
Acceptance of credit may vary based on earned grade or the transferrable credit from a community college.

  
Location

Courses are taught in PSD's high schools or taught by PSD's instructors.

    
Parent/Guardian Involvement

Parents will have access to teachers through the district's communications channels.

I began working in education in 2004. I received my bachelor’s degree from Central Washington University in Education and my master’s degree from Seattle University in School Counseling; I also have teaching certificates in Career Choices and Work Based Learning. I began working as a career counselor in 2015, prior to that I taught high school for seven years and I have worked at both the elementary and high school levels as a school counselor.  When away from work I enjoy spending time with my husband and our three children who are in the Peninsula School District. 
My role is to coordinate and plan events for the district, that provide college and career guidance to students and families; to assist them in making informed educational and career choices such as College and Career Fairs, Scholarship Events, Paying for College, Financial Aid Support, Planning For College, Career and Apprenticeship Events, College or Career-related testing. I also work to implement High School and Beyond Plan lessons and use of Naviance, support CTE courses and pathways, and track and implement support plans regarding college-bound scholar data, FAFSA data, Naviance, and senior data. I typically spend two days a week at Peninsula High School and Gig Harbor High School and one day a week at Henderson Bay High School.  I look forward to working with you this year.

Gig Harbor has been my home since December of 2005. My husband and I have three children: a sophomore, a senior, and a Peninsula School District alumni. I have a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Northern Colorado and a master's Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. I have worked in the Peninsula School District in many capacities since 2013 and am very excited to work in the role of the district Worksite Learning Coordinator.

My career with the Peninsula School District began just over 35 years ago. I have been at Discovery Elementary, Voyager Elementary, Gig Harbor High School, Peninsula High School, Henderson Bay High School, and now at the Educational Services Center. My experience is broad and varied spanning all age groups. Rosedale has been my home for the past 45 years, watching Gig Harbor grow from one blinker light downtown to what it is today. Guiding my two daughters from kindergarten through high school in this district, and on through graduate schools has given me a great background for my position as a District Career Specialist. I have worked with and continue to work with people who inspire me in this role. I look forward to new challenges during this school year. I am blessed.

I was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest. I currently live in Manchester, Washington! I am a graduate of Pacific Lutheran University and received a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in HR and Management. During my time at PLU, I got the opportunity to study abroad in Italy! I graduated in two years because I did running start in high school at Olympic College! I also obtained a Master of Science degree in Leadership and Management from Western Governors University while working full-time at the City of Tacoma in the Human Resources Department. I got into education by becoming a certified substitute teacher at South Kitsap School District in 2019 and loved working with students! I am excited to help students navigate toward their future careers!

I have lived in Gig Harbor for the last 16 years with my husband who is a teacher in the Peninsula School District. I have two kids who also attend school here in the Peninsula School District. I received a Bachelor’s degree from Central Washington University. I’ve had the pleasure of working at Gig Harbor High School since 2017. In addition to facilitating college visits and testing, I enjoy connecting with students and helping them navigate options for their future!
