Biomedical Program at Peninsula High School and Gig Harbor High School
The Biomedical Science program at Peninsula High School and Gig Harbor High School provides students with an immersive and rigorous introduction to health sciences through a sequence of courses:

  • Principles of Biomedical Science,
  • Human Body Systems, and
  • Medical Interventions.

These courses guide students through hands-on projects that explore medical challenges, human anatomy, and the application of biomedical science in real-world scenarios. Students also have the opportunity to join HOSA, where they can enhance their learning, develop leadership skills, and compete in health science-focused events. This program equips students with the critical thinking and technical skills needed for advanced studies and careers in healthcare.

Foundation for COPE Health Scholars
These Biomedical Science courses provide an excellent foundation for participation in the COPE Health Scholars program, a partnership that allows students to gain clinical experience at no cost. With a solid background in biomedical science, students are well-prepared to excel in on-site healthcare training, assisting with patient care, and exploring hospital specialty departments at locations like Tacoma General and Allenmore Hospitals. This invaluable experience, combined with the academic and leadership development provided by the Biomedical Science program and HOSA, sets students up for success in health professions and clinical care pathways.
