• No cost to inspect records  • 5 business days response time •  $0.15 per page for copies • Monday – Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

IMPORTANT: Requests must be for specific, identifiable records. We cannot fulfill overly broad requests.

How to Request Records

 

  1. Identify Records — Clearly describe the specific records you need. General requests are not valid. 
  2. Submit Request — Use our online portal or contact the Public Records Officer directly. 
  3. Wait for Response — We’ll respond within five (5) business days with records or a timeline. 
  4. Review and Pay — Inspect records for free or pay copying costs if needed.

  • Yes. If your request is denied or partially denied, you may petition the Public Records Officer for review. Your petition must: 

    • Be submitted in writing (including email)
    • Include a copy of or reference to the denial
    • Be submitted to publicrecords@psd401.net

    We will review and respond with two (2) business days of receiving your petition. 

  • Inspection of records FREE
    Photocopies/printed copies $0.15 per page
    Scanning to electronic format $0.10 per page
    Electronic files (per 4 files) $0.05
    Electronic transmission (per GB) $0.10
    Alternative Flat Fee Option $2.00

  • Within 5 business days of receiving your request, we will:

    • Provide the records or make them available for inspection, OR
    • Give you a reasonable timeline estimate, OR
    • Ask for clarification on unclear requests, OR
    • Deny the request with explanation

    Large requests may be provided in installments. You have 30 days to claim assembled records.

  • Some records are exempt from disclosure under Washington State law, including: 

    • Student educational records (FERPA)
    • Personnel records and employee evaluations
    • Special education records (IDEA)
    • Attorney-client privileged communications
    • Free/reduced lunch program information
    • Health information (HIPAA)
    • Child abuse reports and investigations
    • Examination questions before testing
    • Ongoing legal proceedings materials

    If records contain both exempt and non-exempt information, we'll redact the exempt portions and provide the rest.

  • Peninsula School District Policy 4040
  • RCW 42.56.040 (Public access requirements)
