PSD’s “First Lego League” Team: Engineering Tomorrow's Leaders
At Vaughn, Evergreen, Swift Water, Discovery, and Artondale elementaries, our First Lego League teams aren’t just building robots- they’re building the foundation for lifelong learning and success.
In our latest video spotlight, Vaughn elementary Science Teacher Matthew Mills, Assistant Coach Mackenzie Mills, and Vaughn student team members share the incredible impact of First Lego League participation. While robotics serves as the exciting entry point, the real magic happens in the cross-curricular skills students develop; critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and creative problem solving.
“There is a huge research and development component,” explains Mr. Mills, highlighting how robotics challenges naturally integrate science, math, engineering, language arts, and social skills. “It’s given me a new focus on how to help kids grow new skills and learn new interests.”
Students learn to work together, think systematically, present their ideas confidently and persist through challenges- skills that serve them well in every classroom and beyond.
Our students demonstrate daily that when we provide hands-on, engaging learning opportunities, kids can rise to meet high expectations while having fun in the process.
